Throughout his career, George has been responsible for the conduct of a very wide range of strategic and statutory planning studies, environmental impact assessments (EIA) and approvals for major public and private sector projects.
George’s reputation is encapsulated through his project record and standing as a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).
After a strong grounding in the Victorian and British planning systems George returned to Australia in 1974 and took up an early pre-planning role and subsequently full time employment with the Albury Wodonga Growth Centre Project. Here he was responsible at different times for the development control system under the NSW and Victorian legislation, the urban design function for development of new planned communities and ultimately as Principal Planner for the project.
A 3 year role in Riyadh Saudi Arabia as chief planner of the authority responsible for the planning and execution of major projects and ultimately the metropolitan strategy for Riyadh provided further exposure to major project development and strategic planning with input from leading international academics and consultants.
As Victorian manager of planning for a national multi national consulting firm for 11 years he was responsible for a wide variety of work including major growth corridor strategic plans, urban development plans, major environmental and planning approvals for both public and private clients.
As Director of George Ward Consulting over 18 years he secured a loyal following of clients who valued his professional excellence, ethical and frank advice and commitment to successful project outcomes. He gained a strong reputation for a deep knowledge and creative use of the full range of planning and environmental legislation at both a state and Commonwealth level. In particular, major public authorities have highly valued his input to major road, rail, water, wastewater projects.
He is now lending the breadth and depth of his experience to serving the growth of a dynamic new multi disciplinary company in the environmental planning and approvals field.
